Jonnie Peacock Strikes Gold Again at London Stadium

 
Team GB came into Sunday’s session full of confidence at the top of the medals table with Jonnie Peacock and Aled Davies still to come.
 
Peacock looked to reclaim the men’s 100m T44 World Championship gold medal he won in Lyon 2013, after missing out on the last World Championships in Doha through injury.
 
The Team GB hero set a European record in the opening heat to make the final in a time of 10.64. 
 
The double Paralympic champion went into the final as favourite and lived up to expectations as he crossed the line to regain his World Champion status in a time of 10.75.
 
Davies won Team GB’s first gold of the day as he threw 51.54m in the men’s discus F42 to beat Tom Habscheid of Luxembourg. 
 
The 26-year-old will be looking to add to his gold tally next Saturday as he competes in the men’s shot put as the defending world champion. 
 
Ireland’s Jason Smyth clinched a fourth world title in the men’s 100m T13, finishing well ahead of his competitors in a time of 10.63. 
 
Smyth’s compatriot Michael McKillop also secured a gold medal as he finished clear of the field in a time of 2:00.93 during the men's 800m T38 final, both competitors will be competing again later in the week.
 
Australian runner James Turner broke the world record in the men’s 200m T36 heat to qualify for the final which takes place on Monday night. 
 
Turner will compete against Team GB athletes Graeme Ballard and Paul Blake, for a shot at the gold medal. 
 
Australian Isis Holt set a new championship record as she crossed the line in 28.47 during the women’s 200m T35, 17-year-old Team GB star Maria Lyle finished with a bronze.
 
Moroccan long distance runner Youssef Benibrahim broke the men’s 5000m T13 world record, crossing the line in 14:20.69 to win gold. 
 
Manic Monday is back with 29 gold medals up for grabs, with Team GB looking to further their lead at the top of the medals table.
