Six world records were broken, three of them by Team GB athletes, but the biggest cheer of the night was held for Richard Whitehead as he looked to defend his 200m T42 title.

Whitehead defended his title to take gold crossing the line in 23.26 to claim his fourth consecutive world title, with 15-year-old South African hope Ntando Mahlangu coming closest to win silver.

Hollie Arnold was first up in the evening session and completed a hat-trick of world titles as she beat her own world record by 1cm, the 2016 Paralympic champion throwing 43.02 in the F46 Javelin.

The night was set for Team GB to perform under the lights of London Stadium, and Sophie Hahn cheered on by thousands of spectators won gold for her first 200m world title, as well as setting a new world record of 26.11.

Hahn was up against team mate Kadeena Cox who finished in bronze position, Cox will have another chance to win a medal in the 400m.

Sam Kinghorn completed a trio of Team GB world records in the women’s 200m T53 final to win gold, capping off an incredible night for Team GB.

Stephanie Reid kickstarted day two’s medal haul as she won gold in the women’s long jump T44, after winning silver in the same event at the London Paralympics in 2012.

The much-awaited men’s 100m T47 did not feature any athletes from Team GB, but the hot favourite Petrucio Ferreira did not disappoint, as he set a new world record crossing the line in 10.53.

Malaysia’s Muhammad Zolkefli smashed the men’s shot put F20 world record to win gold, and Cassie Mitchell, representing USA set a new world record in the women’s discus F52 to take home the gold.
