Usain Bolt laid the foundations for his final curtain call with as Jamaica cruised to victory n the semi-final of the men’s 4 x 100m relay.
The Jamaican quartet led from gun to tape but will face a much tougher test in tonight’s final following safe passage for the United States and Great Britain in a faster first heat.
Rohan Blake and Omar McLeod could be called upon to bolster a young Jamaican team but Bolt was full of praise for those that supported him in his quest to qualify.
“The energy and vibe was there today and we really felt it,†said Bolt.
“This is a young team but they did the job today and we will see what happens.â€
In the men’s decathlon, Canada’s Damian Warner shone in the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.63 secs while Kevin Mayer retained the overall lead ahead of the throws.
Great Britain will hunt for medals in all four relay finals after convincing performances that belied the team’s struggles in pursuit of individual glory.
Mo Farah will look to double his personal haul when he goes for gold in the 5000m final at 8.20pm.
