The Great Britain medal wait is ongoing, but it could end tonight. Mo Farah’s glorious gold on opening night is the only one to grace London Stadium so far, but in British record holder Dina Asher-Smith, there is a chance of the home crowd celebrating a medal again.
The women’s 200m final headlines Day eight of the IAAF World Athletic Championships at 9:50. Asher-Smith qualified impressively last night with a season’s best 22.73, but will have to compete against world champion Dafne Schippers and the fastest qualifier, Shaunae Miller-Uibo.
Preceding her in the men’s hammer throw final is Nick Miller at 8:30. Only needing one throw in qualifying, Miller is in good form, however Poland’s Pawl Fajdek is competing for a third straight world gold.
Lorraine Ugen goes in the Long Jump final at 7:10. The only Brit left in the event, she aims to claim a first outdoor medal.
The men’s decathlon continues this evening after beginning in the morning session, as the high jump and 400m await the athletes. France’s Kevin Mayer is 25 points clear of Germany’s Rico Freimuth. The silver medallist from Rio is the favourite in London following the retirement of the American world record holder Ashton Eaton.
Elsewhere, British athletes are in qualification action once more. Lynsey Sharp, Shelayna Oskan-Clarke and Adelle Tracey attempt to reach the 800m final from 7:35.
Chris O’Hare and Jake Wightman also fight for final places, this time in the 1500m semi-finals at 8:10.
