Bilic On Swansea Win: "It's A Great Three Points"

By Sam Tonks

West Ham picked up a vital 1-0 win over Swansea City yesterday following an 89th minute winner from Diafra Sakho. Slaven Bilic’s substitutions did the trick and lifted the lid off London Stadium, making that three wins from four home games this season.

“It is a relief, a great three points for us,” he said.

“To keep the support of the crowd we need to keep producing minute after minute, we didn’t do that in the first half, the guys on the bench lifted the crowd.”

Manuel Lanzini was the first of the three substitutes to be introduced, to a rapturous welcome from home fans, and Bilic recognised his influence on the game.

“We were very offensive but lacked the connection between defence and attack and that is why Lanzini made a big impact,” said Bilic.

“We have to play better and we can play better.”

An 89th minute goal is hard to take for any side and Paul Clement is no different after his Swansea side’s defensive rear-guard was eventually breached.

“We just did not defend that last attack very well. They created a really good scoring chance, which is what we didn’t do,” he said.

“I think the result was a little harsh in that I don’t think that they weren’t better than us as such.”

Swansea hadn’t conceded away from home until Sakho hit the back of the net yesterday, as Clement claims they’re still finding a balance.

“A combination of the delivery and the movement in the final third need to be better,” he explained.

“We are closer to getting the balance right but there is still work to be done.”
