The penultimate day of the IPC World Para Athletics Championships in London Stadium, proved to be a very successful one for team GB, with a captain's performance from Aled Davies headlining a second Super Saturday at the venue. Davies smashed his own world record by more than a metre, recording a mammoth 17.52 metres.
In the T38 100m, favourite Sophie Hahn dominated from start to finish as she set a new world record time (12.44)Â and picked up the gold, fellow Brit Kadeena Cox claimed her second medal in as many days as she claimed silver behind her compatriot. Olivia Breen finished in fourth and was bitterly unlucky not to pick up the bronze after finishing just 0.17 seconds outside the medals.
“I knew I was going doing well in training and was feeling excellent this week, and to make double records, I’m really proud," said Sophie.
“there are some fantastic runners, especially Kadeena, but I’m not sure if I’m unbeatable. The crowd really helped, if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t have done so well."
Kadeena reciprocated the comments, as she picked up a silver after winning gold in the T38 400m the previous day, proving her ability across two difference disciplines.
“I love Sophie to pieces, and I know how much she puts into it and its great to have someone in your country pushing you, it only makes you want to perform better,†she said.
“I said to myself yesterday I’ve got a gold and a bronze, I might as well go for silver to have the full set... so I might as well go for the full set. I was with the medical team a lot last night so to come out today with the silver, I’m over the moon."
Georgina Hermitage continued her dominance at London Stadium, picking up her second gold of the Championships during the Women’s 100m T37 to one of the loudest cheers of the week.
“I’m completely satisfied, at one point I thought I’d be squeezed out of the medals for the 100m, so I’m completely relieved, and I can go home and be mum again†she said.
Elsewhere Brazilian Petrucio Ferreira Dos Santos, broke the 200m T47 world record, with a new time of 21.21.
With three golds and a silver on day nine, team GB can feel proud going into the last day of the Para Athletic Championships at London Stadium.
